Description:
Dom St. Marien
The building on the left is the Cathedral (Dom).
A church on the Domberg (Cathedral Hill) was first erected around 725. A Romanesque basilica was built in the same place in 1154. The high Gothic choir (seen in front of the building on the left in the photo) was added in 1349-70. In 1455-65, the Basilica was rebuilt as a hall church. The main tower of the three towers seen in the photo houses one of the largest bells in the world called "Maria Gloriosa."
St. Severi
The building on the right is the Severikirche (first recorded in 1121), which was built as an Early Gothic hall church. The three tall steeples are characteristics of this church.
